File 2021 IRS Tax Return First To Get $1,400 Stimulus Check

You Must file 2021 IRS Tax Return To Get $1400 Tax Credit

Nearly all Americans with a social security number will have received a $1,400 stimulus check in 2021. If you didn’t, you may have to file a tax return to receive your last stimulus check.

Did You Get Your Stimulus Check?

A stipend of up to $1,400 was distributed in March 2021 to each individual and $1,200 for a married couple. Plus an additional $600 for each qualifying dependent below 17 years of age. There were different eligibility requirements that everyone had to meet to qualify for the stimulus check.

Eligibility For the Stimulus Check

There are certain eligibility criteria that must be met before you receive the stimulus check.

CNBC spoke with the U.S. Department of the Treasury and found that 645,000 people still have not received their stimulus check. This is partly due to the severe budget cuts and the employment reduction forced on the IRS. They have fallen behind and reported that they are still working hard on previously filed tax returns.

Certain Exceptions

There are certain exceptions for eligibility. You may receive partial payment if you’re close enough to the minimum threshold. In other cases, you may also receive additional stimulus checks based on the number of dependents you have.

You may be eligible for a partial payment if during 2021, your income fell below the threshold.

For dependents, you may claim their stimulus payments and receive an additional $1,400 payment.

People Are Not Eligible

The economic impact payment (EIP) is heavily dependent on your income and those who depend on you for that income.

As stated above, the threshold can cap anywhere between $75,000 to $150,000 depending on how you file your taxes. If your income surpasses the threshold of which you file at, you may not receive anything at all!
Dependents can be any age. Maybe you’re being taken care of by your adult child or your children are dependent on you. If someone claims you as a dependent on their tax return you are not eligible for a stimulus payment. Instead, the claimant receives the payment on your behalf.
If you don’t have a social security number, you are likely not eligible for the EIP. There are a few exceptions such as adoption and being married to a military spouse who has a SSN.
If the IRS doesn’t know about you or you haven’t filed taxes since 2018, you are likely not eligible for any payments. You must have filed your taxes for the IRS to send you a payment.

Recovery Rebate Tax Credit

The Recovery Rebate Tax Credit is distributed to people that have not yet received their third EIP by the end of 2021. It’s the same payment as the EIP. Only difference is the name and how you were able to get the EIP. The tax credit will not be automatically implemented on your tax return.

Luckily, the IRS sends you a letter and if you have an online account, you may also view your stimulus payments on the IRS website.

How Do I Know if I Already Received My Stimulus Payment?

The IRS Letter 6475 was issued in January 2022 to help Economic Income Payments recipients determine if they can claim the Recovery Rebate Tax Credit.

The IRS mailed Notice 1444-C to tell eligible people that they have received their third economic payment.

You may also check online on the IRS’ website for your IRS account and check the status of your taxes.
